Frequently asked questions

What is #BGSGivingDay?

Brisbane Grammar School is a community of families, part of the fabric of our city for over 150 years. Founded on the generosity of our earliest residents, we would be nothing without the support of our community.

In that spirit, BGS is holding our first ever Giving Day on Thursday 7 October 2021.

We want to rally our community of parents, staff, students and old boys in support of our needs-based bursaries program and our incredible STEAM precinct.

Our aim for Giving Day 2021 is to raise $400,000 from 100 or more donors. With your support we can reach that goal!

What are you raising money for?

#BGSGivingDay is raising money to fund needs-based bursaries for boys who would benefit from the exceptional education that BGS provides but do not have the financial means to attend the school. We are also fundraising for our new STEAM precinct, currently under construction and due to be completed for the first day back of 2023.

Why are we doing this?

Giving days are fundraising events, but they are also opportunities to bring a community together. Participating in and sharing the celebrations of giving day help us to remember that there is so much we share, such as the belief in the importance of education and its ability to transform lives, and the values of giving back, helping others, and that together we can achieve so much more than we can as individuals.

Can anyone participate?

Anyone is welcome to make a donation, sign up to be an ambassador or help spread the message.

Is there a minimum or maximum donation I can make for #BGSGivingDay?

There is no set minimum donation. However, the minimum amount for a donation to be tax-deductible in Australia is $2. There is no maximum donation. If you are interested in making a significant donation to BGS on Giving Day, you are welcome to do so through our website, or you can get in touch with Director of Development Stuart Fitzpatrick on 07 3834 5768 or

What is an ambassador?

An ambassador is someone who is active in promoting #BGSGivingDay through their networks, via email and social media. Ambassadors have access to messages, images and tools supplied by BGS to help them advocate for the school. Anyone can sign up to be an ambassador.

Can I make a gift before giving day?

Yes. You can make a gift to our Giving Day campaign as soon as the website goes live. Your donation will be added to our Giving Day total and acknowledged on the donor wall.

How can I spread the word?

You can spread the word via social media. Feel free to visit any of our social media channels to find out more, like and share. You can also sign up to be an ambassador and get access to additional material direct from BGS to share amongst your networks.

How can I donate?

You can donate online through the BGS Giving Day page.

After your donation is processed, you will receive your tax receipt via email, and your donation will be added to our online donation tally!

Where does my donation go?

Donations you make to BGS on Giving Day go to either our Bursary Fund, an endowed fund that aims to provide up to 10% of our students with bursary support; or to our STEAM Precinct which will enable us to provide current and future students with some of the best learning and teaching facilities in the country.

All gifts made to the BGS Bursary Fund are placed into an endowed fund and will give in perpetuity. That means that your donation will be invested, and the interest from that investment is what we use to fund our bursary program. Your donation will never go away, it will only grow and continue to give for years to come.

That is why there is no such thing as a small donation. Every gift makes a difference and will continue to do so for as long as Brisbane Grammar School stands.

Will my #BGSGivingDay gift be tax-deductible?

Brisbane Grammar School has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, meaning all donations over $2 are tax deductible for Australian taxpayers. After making your gift, you will receive your tax receipt via email.

Am I still able to donate if I live outside Australia?

Yes you can. You can donate from anywhere in the world.

How can I stay-up-to date with the cause I give to?

Once Giving Day is over, we’ll be sending all our generous donors an update on how the day went. You can also check back here anytime to monitor our progress.

You can also sign up to receive updates from Brisbane Grammar School. After you subscribe, you can change your preferences or unsubscribe at any time.
